The largest forging so far produced in HIDURON 191 have just been supplied to a Midlands engineering firm for machining into tail shafts for a vessel with special marine duties.
Although Langley aluminium-bronzes are extensively used in marine applications because of their resistance to corrosion in sea water, the recently developed HIDURON 191 (UNS C72420, NES 835, DEF STAN 02-835) was specified because of its improved ductility and corrosion resistance which fulfilled the exacting requirements. Each forging is 7” in diameter and 15.6” long and weighs nearly one ton, and when finished machined will measure 6.25” diameter and 13.9” long.
