What is HVD-1™?

HVD-1™ is a registered trademark of Gustav Grimm Edelstahlwerk, and is a super duplex stainless steel.  It has a composition of Cr (24.0-28.0%), Ni (2.0-3.0%), Mo (7.5-9.5%), Cu (1.0-2.0%), similar to that of Ferralium 255.

HVD-1™ is often specified by OEMs for the construction of valves, pumps and other process equipment involved in the urea and fertiliser production processes. These OEMs are typically supplying items for plants designed by licence holders such as Stamicarbon, Snamprogretti, Thyssenkrupp, and Toyo. The specifications of these licence holders will often allow a choice of metals including Ferralium 255, which is known to perform well in fertiliser production processes due to its excellent resistance to acids.

Ferralium  255

Ferralium 255 (UNS32550, DIN 1.4507, F61) is the original SDSS, developed by Langley Alloys in the 1960’s. It is still the only super duplex to provide a yield strength >85ksi, whilst it’s increased copper content (2%) ensures greater resistance to acids.
