Illustrated is a Masoneilan 12120 electronic level transmitter manufactured almost entirely of Ferralium 255, one of several which are destined for handling seawater on an oil platform in the North Sea. This alloy was selected as the material of construction in view of its excellent resistance to selective attack as well as to general corrosion by seawater. Several forms of the alloy- wrought, static castings and centrifugal castings- are welded together to produce the equipment, demonstrating the versatility of FERRALIUM 255 (UNS S32550, Alloy 255, DIN 1.4507, ASTM F61).
